Ink Review #186: Robert Oster Blue Lagoon

ROBlueLagoon-2.jpg

January for me is all about the blues: bright, light, dark, shimmery, anything blue, so there will be lots of blue ink reviews this month-you have been warned. Today is Robert Oster Blue Lagoon. I purchased my sample of ink from Vanness Pens

The color:

Blue Lagoon is a bright summery blue.

I'm a sucker for a pretty sheen. These ink drops remind me of Lamy Pacific Blue (Turquoise) though, so I'll compare them below.

Dry time: 25 seconds

Water resistance: Low

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: Medium shading, low pink sheen and no shimmer.

On 20 pound copy paper there was a little bit of feathering but other than that it preformed pretty well.

Ink swabs for comparison, left to right (top to bottom for mobile RSS): Robert Oster Blue Water Ice, Robert Oster Blue Lagoon, and Robert Oster Soda Pop Blue. Click here to see the Robert Oster inks together. All three of these inks are very similar in tone. Blue Lagoon is the lightest, Blue Water Ice is a bit darker, and Soda Pop Blue is the darkest.

Lamy Pacific Blue (aka Lamy Turquoise), Organics Studio Copper Turquoise, and Robert Oster Fire and Ice. Pacific Blue and Blue Lagoon are SOOOO similar. They both have medium shading and low pink sheen. Fire and Ice has more green in it than Blue Lagoon does. Click here to see the blue inks together.

Longer writing:

I used a medium Pelikan M605 White Transparent on Tomoe River paper.

Overall, I feel like this ink is a lighter version of Robert Oster Blue Water Ice. It is also very similar to Lamy Pacific Blue. Since I already have bottles of both Blue Water Ice and Pacific Blue, I don't feel like I need to get a full bottle of this ink. If you don't already have them, I would suggest picking up a bottle or trying a sample. It's a beautiful blue, and pretty well behaved too.
