We are finishing up black ink week with Rohrer and Klingner SketchINK Lotte. The SketchINK line is pigmented, and usually very water resistant. Since it is pigmented, you need to shake the bottle before filling. It is very foamy when shaken. I purchased my sample of ink from Vanness Pens.
Lotte is a basic black.
In large swabs the ink has a very shiny finish. Not sheen, just very shiny.
Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.
Dry time: 40 seconds
Water resistance: High-the ink did not budge.
Feathering: Low-there was just a little bit of feathering on Rhodia in the flex nib.
Show through: Medium
On Staples 24 lb copy paper there was just a little bit of feathering, and some bleeding in the flex nib.
Overall, I love that it’s water resistant. I think it would be great for working with watercolors when you need a waterproof ink. It has a nice wet flow, but because it’s pigmented it’s a little bit more high maintenance than your average ink. I would at least rinse out the pen once a month just to keep the pen working well.
