Ink Review #2524: Robert Oster Skyward

Let’s take a look at a recent ink, Robert Oster Skyward, a Vanness Pens Exclusive.

The color:

Skyward is a medium baby blue.

*For my swab cards I use a Col-o-ring by Skylab Letterpress, a medium Pilot Ishime and a Mabie Todd Swan.

Swabs:

In large swabs on Tomoe River paper you can see some pink shading.

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

*For my writing samples I use:

Dry time: 20 seconds

Water resistance: Low

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: medium shading, no sheen, and no shimmer.

On 20 lb copy paper the ink had some feathering in all nib sizes and some bleeding in the larger nib sizes.

Comparison Swabs:

Skyward is a little more green than Sailor Ink Studio 140. Click here to see the blue inks together.

Longer Writing:

I used a Franklin-Christoph Vanness with a medium nib on a Taroko Enigma notebook. The ink has a very dry flow.

Overall, I love the color and the little bit of pink shading. It can be rather light in the extra fine nibs, so I prefer to stick to medium or larger nibs.

Ink Review #2523: Robert Oster Romeo & Juliet

Robert Oster recently released a new ink called Romeo and Juliet. You can find this ink for sale at most retailers including Vanness Pens.

The color:

Romeo & Juliet is a pale dusky blue with some pink shading.

*For my swab cards I use a Col-o-ring by Skylab Letterpress, a medium Pilot Ishime and a Mabie Todd Swan.

Swabs:

In large swabs on Tomoe River paper you can see more of the pink shading.

Other properties: high shading, no sheen, and no shimmer.

On 20 lb copy paper the ink had some feathering in all nib sizes and some bleeding in the larger nib sizes.

Longer Writing:

I used a Pilot Custom 74 Teal with a broad nib on a Taroko Enigma notebook. The ink has a very dry flow.

Overall, I love all the pretty shading, but the lighter part of the shading is too light to be easily read. The ink is also very dry, and I prefer wetter inks. This isn’t an ink for me, but it is very pretty.

Colorverse Korea Inks, Part 3

Colorverse recently released 10 more inks to their Korea Special Ink Collection, so today we are going to take a look at five of them. Thanks to Luxury Brands for sending these inks over for review! You can finds these inks for sale at a lot of retailers, including Vanness Pens.

Swabs:

Left to right: Winter of Mudeung, Hwaseong Fortress, Egg Cockle, Humpback Whale and Leodo.

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

Dry Time: 30-70 seconds

Water Resistance: Low-Medium

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: All have low shading. Winter of Mudeung has blue and pink shimmer.

On Walmart Pen + Gear copy paper there was some feathering in every nib size and some bleeding.

Comparison Swabs:

Winter of Mudeung is more grey than Dominant Industry Martin.

Hwaseong Fortress is a little darker than Colorverse Costar.

Egg Cockle is has a similar tone to R&K Sketch Jule, but is much darker.

Humpback Whale is a bit lighter than Kobe Nagata Blue.

Leodo is closest to Sailor Ink Studio 341.

Longer Writing:

I used a Taroko Enigma notebook. The last four had average flows, and Winter of Mudeung has a dry flow.

Overall, I enjoyed these inks. Winter of Mudeung is a little dry for me, but I really like the others.

Octopus Fluids Green Panda is from the Write & Draw collection. You can find this ink for sale at Vanness Pens.

The color:

Green Panda is a bright lime green.

*For my swab cards I use a Col-o-ring by Skylab Letterpress, a medium Pilot Ishime and a Mabie Todd Swan.

Swabs:

In large swabs on Tomoe River paper the ink turns black where it pooled, but I wouldn’t call it sheen.

Water resistance: High

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Overall, I like the color but it can be too light in the smaller nib sizes. I love the slightly wet flow and high water resistance.

The color:

Buko Pandan is a bright lime green with silver shimmer.

I used a Pelikan M605 Green White with a medium nib on a Taroko Enigma notebook. The ink has a dry flow.

Overall, I love the color, but it can be too light in the smaller nib sizes. It’s also a little drier than I prefer.

Yamamoto-dori is a deep hunter green with black sheen.

The color:

Rhubarb Green is a medium forest green.

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: no shading (there’s no shading in writing, but there’s some shading in large swabs), no sheen, and no shimmer.

On 20 lb copy paper the ink had some feathering and bleeding in the larger nib sizes.

Rhubarb Green is lighter and brighter than Papier Plume Ivy 108. Click here to see the green inks together.

Longer Writing:

I used a TWSBI Eco Transparent Green with a medium nib on a Taroko Enigma notebook. The ink has an average flow.

Overall, for a scented ink it’s remarkably well behaved. Most scented inks have a ton of feathering and bleeding and this ink doesn’t have any of that. If you are looking for a scented ink, this is a great option.

Medusa is a medium violet with a ton of green sheen.

In large swabs on Tomoe River paper the ink has a lot of sheen.

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

Dry time: 40 seconds

Water resistance: Low

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: medium shading, monster green sheen, and no shimmer.

On 20 lb copy paper the ink had some feathering and bleeding in the larger nib sizes.

Comparison Swabs:

Medusa has way more sheen than Cross Violet. Click here to see the purple inks together.

Longer Writing:

I used a Lamy Safari Violet with a medium nib on a Taroko Enigma notebook. The ink has an average but sticky flow.

Overall, it’s a nice color and it has a ton of sheen. I didn’t have any issues with smearing or long dry times.

Octopus Fluids Sea Serpent is from the Sheening collection. You can find this ink for sale at most retailers including Vanness Pens.

The color:

Sea Serpent is a deep indigo blue with a ton of reddish-copper sheen.

*For my swab cards I use a Col-o-ring by Skylab Letterpress, a medium Pilot Ishime and a Mabie Todd Swan.

Swabs:

In large swabs on Tomoe River paper the ink has lots of sheen, but even after four days the ink wasn’t completely dry.

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

*For my writing samples I use:

Dry time: 30 seconds

Water resistance: Low

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: medium shading, monster copper sheen, and no shimmer.

On 20 lb copy paper the ink had some feathering in all nib sizes and some bleeding in the larger nib sizes.

Comparison Swabs:

Sea Serpent is closest to Organics Studio Emerson, but there are a lot of deep blues with sheen. Click here to see the blue inks together.

Longer Writing:

I used a Leonardo Aloha with a medium nib on a Taroko Enigma notebook. The ink has an average but sticky flow.

Overall, I love the color but the ink never fully dries in large swabs. I didn’t have a problem with it smearing in writing though, which is great for a super sheeny blue.
