Ink Review #1010: Sailor Manyo Haha

sm-haha-2.jpg

When I saw a promo picture of the new Sailor Manyo inks online I immediately knew I had to order a few of them but Haha stuck out to me the most. I immediately pre-ordered it from Pen Chalet. The bottles are glass 50ml squares, and frankly I prefer them over the standard squat Sailor bottles. This ink has some crazy shading, from blue to purple to green.

The color:

The base is a light blue, but then shades to a pale purple and green.

Swabs:

In large swabs on Tomoe River paper make me so happy-gimme all the shading!

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

Dry time: 20 seconds

Water resistance: Low

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: high shading, no sheen, and no shimmer.

On Staples 24 lb copy paper there was some feathering in all nib sizes but just a tiny bit of bleeding.

Comparison Swabs:

Haha is much bluer than Sailor Ink Studio 162, but more green than 243. Click here to see the Sailor inks together, and click here to see the blue inks together.

I used a Pilot Custom 74 Teal with a broad nib on a Yoseka A5 notebook. The ink had a wet flow.

Overall, I love this ink! The shading is amazing, the color is beautiful, and the price isn’t too bad. I’m glad I have a full bottle because I can’t resist filling pens with it. The only drawback is that it can be rather light, especially in small nibs. I’m planning to stick to medium and larger nibs. The shading does show the best on Tomoe River paper.
