Ink Review #2499: Pelikan 4001 Violet

Today’s ink is Pelikan 4001 Violet. You can find this ink available in short cartridges at Vanness Pens.

The color:

Violet is a medium purple.

*For my swab cards I use a Col-o-ring by Skylab Letterpress, a medium Pilot Ishime and a Mabie Todd Swan.

Swabs:

In large swabs on Tomoe River paper the ink has a little bit of gold sheen.

Writing samples:

Let's take a look at how the ink behaves on fountain pen friendly papers: Rhodia, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm.

*For my writing samples I use:

Dry time: 40 seconds

Water resistance: Medium

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: low shading, low gold sheen, and no shimmer.

On 20 lb copy paper the ink had some feathering and bleeding in the larger nib sizes.

Comparison Swabs:

Violet is closest to KWZ Gummiberry. Click here to see the purple inks together.

Longer Writing:

I used a Lamy Safari Violet with a medium nib on a Taroko Enigma notebook. The ink has a dry flow, but I really enjoyed this pen/ink/paper combo.

Overall, this is a lovely ink. It’s a great color with a little bit of shading. and sheen.

Today’s ink is Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Red. You can find this ink for sale at most retailers including Vanness Pens.

The color:

Brilliant Red is a bright medium red.

The color:

Turquoise is a medium turquoise blue.

In large swabs on Tomoe River paper the ink has a bit of pink sheen.

Water resistance: Low

Feathering: None

Show through: Medium

Bleeding: None

Other properties: medium shading, low pink sheen, and no shimmer.

On 20 lb copy paper the ink had some feathering and a few dots of bleeding in the larger nib sizes.

Longer Writing:

I used a Pelikan M600 Turquoise White with a broad nib on a Taroko Enigma notebook. The ink has a dry flow.

Overall, this ink is dry, but it works really well in wet Pelikan nibs. This is a nice turquoise blue, bright and lovely.

Overall, I really like this ink. Yes, the flow is dry but it works really well in wet Pelikan nibs.

Overall, this is a good classic black ink with a little shading and sheen. It is very dry, but works really well in wet Pelikan nibs.
